Direct Billing for Counselling

Making Counselling Easier to Access

Understanding your extended health benefits and navigating insurance claims can feel like one more thing to manage. At Clear Path Wellness, we offer direct billing to many extended health insurance providers, helping make the process of accessing counselling simpler and more convenient.

We believe that dealing with insurance shouldn't add unnecessary stress to the process of seeking counselling. Our goal is to make the administrative side as straightforward as possible, so you can focus your time and energy on your well-being.

What You’ll Need

To set up direct billing, we will require:

  • Your insurance provider

  • Your member/certificate ID

  • Your date of birth

  • Information about the primary plan holder, if applicable

If you do not see your current insurance provider listed, we may still be able to work with your insurance plan.

Please contact us, or note which insurer your plan is with in your intake form, and we will review the details with you.

How Direct Billing Works

With direct billing, Clear Path Wellness submits your counselling claim directly to your insurance provider on your behalf. Your insurance company then processes the claim according to your individual benefits.

Depending on your coverage, your plan may pay for all or part of your counselling session. If your plan does not cover the full session fee, you will only be responsible for the remaining balance.

Before your first appointment, we recommend checking your extended health benefits to confirm that they cover counselling services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and to understand your annual limits and session coverage amount.

Direct Billing & Insurance FAQs

What If My Insurance Doesn't Cover the Full Cost?

That's okay. Many extended health plans cover only a portion of counselling fees or have annual limits. If your insurance provider covers only part of the session fee, you would be responsible for the remaining balance.

If you're unsure about your coverage, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider before your first appointment. You can ask whether your plan covers services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and what your annual maximum and reimbursement percentage are.

What If I Have More Than One Insurance Plan?

If you have coverage through two plans (maybe you have coverage through a spouse or partners’ plan, or you have two plans through your work), you may be able to coordinate benefits between them.

We can help with the direct billing process, although your insurance providers determine how coordination of benefits works under your specific plans.

What Questions Should I Ask My Insurance Provider?

Start with these ones, and feel free to ask more:

  • What provider do I have coverage for? (Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Registered Clinical Counsellor, etc.)

  • Is there a deductible amount that must be satisfied before coverage begins?

  • What is the coverage amount per session, and per year?

  • What is my remaining coverage amount for this year?

Can I Still Receive Counselling If I Don’t Have Extended Health Benefits?

Absolutely. You do not need extended health benefits to access counselling at Clear Path Wellness.

Do I need to submit anything to my insurance company?

If your provider supports direct billing and your claim is processed successfully, Clear Path Wellness submits the claim on your behalf. You may still need to provide information about your plan when you begin counselling.

What If I Don’t Want To Opt In To Direct Billing?

Whatever option works best for you is the best for us! We will be sure to provide you a receipt for session payment for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
